Orthodontics

Orthodontics consist of the Latin words ortho "straight" and odons “tooth". It is a branch of science that corrects the perplexity of the teeth and the disorders of relations of the teeth with each other and with the head base when the lower and upper jaws are closed. Orthodontic treatments can be divided into three ; as preventetive treatments in early ages, orthodontic treatments in childhood and orthodontic treatments for adults.
In orthodontic treatment, the teeth are positioned in accordance with aesthetic, physiological and anatomical norms. A smile, suitable for anatomical structure with aligned teeth can be given to the person. Bad habits such as lip and finger sucking, pen biting, using a pacifier or baby bottle for along time can cause deterioration in the teeth and jaw. It is necessary to be examined and to give up these habits at an earlier age for individuals who have that kind of habits. Age of starting orthodontic treatment may differ for each person. Therefore, it should be examined first. For the early diagnosis of orthodontic problems in children, it is recommended to be examined by an orthodontic specialist before the age of 7. The ideal age to start orthodontic treatment is ages between  9-13, which includes the growth and development period. However, orthodontic treatment can be performed at any age when the tissues surrounding the teeth are healthy. In orthodontic treatments after the bracket is applied, sensitivity may felt on the inner parts of lips and cheeks due to the friction of the brackets in the first days. But this continues for a few days. Afterwards, these sensitivities will improve as the mouth and surrounding tissues will get used to the bracket and braces. Teeth are more sensitive during the first tooth movement, biting and chewing. However, this process also takes a short time. Patients generally do not feel the need for painkiller. For patients who do not want a metal appearance in their mouth, there is a faster and almost invisible aesthetic treatment option with personalized transparent plaques (Aligner). It is possible to apply orthodontic treatment with transparent plaques for patients who do not want to wear braces.
How does Transparent Plaque Invisalign  work?
Apparatus attached to the teeth make millimetric  tooth movements to bring the teeth to the desired position. Each plaque fulfills its function for a certain period of time and provides improvement in teeth. Then, the other stage of treatment is started. However, transparent plaque treatment is not applicable for every patient.
What are the advantages of braceless orthodontic treatment?
It is an ideal option for adult patients and patients who do not want braces on their teeth. Because the transparent plaques in the mouth are hardly visible. Inconveniences that may be experienced during the process of getting used to the braces are eliminated in transparent plaques. Daily care and use of plaques is more practical. Unlike braces, you will not have any problems in using dental floss and brushes.
What happens if transparent plaques are not attached?
Since the apparatus is easier to remove by the patient, disrupting regular use may hinder the success of the treatment. It is important to wear for 18-22 hours a day for the success of the treatment.
Is Aligner treatment a painful procedure?
Depending on tooth movements, you may feel pressure when first inserted. However, getting used to it takes less time than braces.
Do plaques obstruct our speech?
Depending on your habituation period, speech returns to normal in 1-2 days.
Can I consume liquid drinks while using Aligner plaques?
Although there is no problem with water and cold drinks, while consuming beverages such as tea and coffee, the plaques should be removed as they may deform.
How should I clean my transparent plaques?
It should be maintained in warm water with the help of a toothbrush every morning and evening.
How long does Orthodontic Treatment take?
It can take from 6 months to 3 years depending on various factors such as the type of treatment, patient's age and patient complaince. While starting orthodontic treatment remember that this will be a process and there would be some rules that you should pay attention to during this treatment process and these rules are necessary for your health and aesthetics.
